MalaysiaGraduate LTSVPLong-Term Social Visit

According to the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) FAQ – Graduate (Social) Visit Pass, the Graduate Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) is open to citizens of 32 listed countries who completed a bachelor’s degree or above at a Malaysian Higher Education Institution (IPT) and meet the applicable conditions. The country list and every fee, threshold, duration and processing time in this article were checked on 9 July 2026. The applicant fee is RM600, the pass is valid for 12 months and cannot be extended, and JIM states a processing period of 14 working days after receiving a complete application.

Who qualifies for Malaysia’s Graduate LTSVP?

JIM’s eligibility rules cover the applicant’s citizenship, education, age and criminal record:

Condition Requirement under the Graduate LTSVP
Citizenship The applicant must be a citizen of one of the 32 countries listed by JIM.
Education The applicant must have completed studies at bachelor’s degree level or above at a Higher Education Institution in Malaysia.
Age There is no age-limit requirement.
Criminal record The applicant must never have been convicted of an offence violating Malaysian law.

Citizenship and graduation from a qualifying Malaysian institution are only part of the eligibility assessment. The Student Pass, passport, insurance, Personal Bond and supporting-document conditions must also be met.

Which documents and personal conditions are required?

The JIM FAQ lists the following documents and status requirements:

Document or condition What is required
Study or course completion A confirmation letter issued by a Public University (UA) or Private Higher Education Institution (IPTS).
Student Pass The applicant’s Student Pass must still be valid.
Passport The passport must have at least 18 months of validity.
Health insurance Active health insurance must provide coverage for at least 12 months.
Personal Bond A Personal Bond with a Malaysian citizen sponsor whose minimum income is RM1,500. The cited FAQ does not state a payment frequency for this income figure.
Conduct letter A support or confirmation letter concerning the student’s conduct may be required from the educational institution or embassy; the FAQ specifically notes this in relation to citizens of China and India.
Criminal history The applicant must have no conviction for an offence violating Malaysian law.

The RM1,500 sponsor-income figure applies to the Malaysian citizen sponsor; it should not be read as a minimum income requirement for the graduate applicant.

Which 32 countries are listed?

JIM lists the following countries of citizenship:

  1. United States
  2. Saudi Arabia
  3. Australia
  4. Bahrain
  5. Netherlands

The Graduate LTSVP is for citizens of these countries; the list is not framed as a general eligibility list for every Malaysian immigration programme.

How is the application submitted and processed?

  • Applications are submitted through the EMGS portal.
  • JIM states that applications are processed by the Student Pass Unit, Visa, Pass and Permit Division, Immigration Department of Malaysia in Putrajaya.
  • The stated processing period is 14 working days after the Immigration Department of Malaysia receives a complete application.

The processing period is not a statement that every application will receive a decision within a guaranteed period. Whether the submission is complete remains an application-specific question for JIM.

What does the RM600 fee cover?

The fee stated in JIM’s Graduate (Social) Visit Pass FAQ is:

Fee item Amount
Graduate LTSVP applicant RM600
Each dependent RM600
Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) An additional country-specific rate; JIM does not provide one fixed amount in the FAQ

The RM600 charge applies separately to the applicant and each dependent. Any MEV charge must be added separately and may vary by country.

What travel, study and work rights are included?

The Graduate LTSVP is a social visit pass, but its listed activities remain subject to Malaysian rules and the limits of the pass:

Area What JIM’s FAQ states
Travel The pass includes a Multiple Entry Visa (MEV), and the listed travel right includes domestic travel.
Further study Holders may identify study programmes at a Public University or Private Higher Education Institution to continue their education.
Job search Holders may look for job opportunities that match their qualifications and course of study.
Part-time work Holders may work part-time in permitted employment sectors and in accordance with the laws then in force.
Existing dependents The holder may bring existing dependents to Malaysia.

The stated employment permission is limited to part-time work in permitted sectors under current law; the FAQ does not present it as an unrestricted right to take any full-time position.

Is the 12-month pass extendable?

Term or status JIM’s position
Validity 12 months
Extension The pass cannot be extended.
Another Long-Term Social Visit Pass It may be changed to another LTSVP, subject to the conditions of the respective pass.
Resident Pass or Entry Permit The holder is not eligible to apply for a Resident Pass or Entry Permit.
Check-out memo No check-out memo is required after the pass expires.

Changing to another LTSVP is subject to that pass’s own conditions and should not be treated as an extension of the Graduate LTSVP.

Frequently asked questions

Can graduates from countries outside the 32-country list apply?

Not under the Graduate LTSVP citizenship rule stated in JIM’s FAQ. Other Malaysian immigration routes may have different nationality requirements, but they are outside this programme.

Does the Graduate LTSVP allow full-time work?

The FAQ specifically identifies part-time work in permitted sectors under current laws. It also allows holders to seek jobs related to their qualifications and studies, but it does not state an unrestricted full-time work right.

Can the pass be extended or used to apply for a Resident Pass?

The Graduate LTSVP cannot be extended, and its holder is not eligible to apply for a Resident Pass or Entry Permit. JIM says the pass may be changed to another LTSVP if the conditions of that pass are met.

Can existing dependents be included, and what do they cost?

Existing dependents may be brought to Malaysia. JIM states a fee of RM600 for each dependent, in addition to the country-specific MEV rate.

This is general information about Malaysia’s Graduate LTSVP, not an individual eligibility or approval assessment. Check the current requirements with JIM or the relevant immigration authority or Malaysian consulate before submitting an application.
